sjamandada is a platform for art on the verge of the contemporary and the invisible, the healing and the unsettling, the uprooting and the re-rooting, the priest and the fool, shaman and dada. We believe that the flagholders of modern art that inspire us are in essence deeply shamanic. Forget the stakeholders of New Age, counting their coins with greasy fingers: this is the real deal.
Performance for us is keeping this wonderful garden called audience. It is a provisory healing by the sick doctors of art. We love DADA for it represents everything contrary to a coherent biography to sell your cultural salesmanship. We think art should kick you in the nuts now and then, with some love and attention. We love shamanism for it connects us to the spontanous vitality of life forces. We love words for they can resonate quite specifically. We love movement for it can resonate wholely. We love being a fool, professionally. The rest is both music and silence.
SJAMANDADA is an open tribe for anyone who likes the manifesto and wishes to be shaken home. The first seed was planted by sieger baljon, who started it along with a seasonal theatre cycle, post-disciplinary poetry volume and calendar reform called ‘Drunken Calendar’. sieger works as a (sound) poet, writer, actor, musician, calendar reformist, theater maker and person. He graduated from Mime School Amsterdam in 2013, works among other groups with Theater Artemis (Jetse Batelaan) & Schweigman&, & is a member of the experimental poetic congacore formation de RaaskalBOMfukkerZ.
